Music and the Autiditive Faculty

I recently read an article about the influences of music on personality traits. It attempts to classify people’s personality based on their preferred music style. However, this made me question the idea of “individual uniqueness”. If we all share personality traits based on our music preferences, can we really claim to be unique individuals?

The article also highlights the lack of clarity regarding the relationship between the brain and mind. While they are two separate elements, we still know less than 10% about them. This makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly where music operates. Perception of music happens at a subtle level in the mind before manifesting physically in the brain.

It’s important to note that the brain has an interesting capacity called plasticity, which allows it to change form based on mental activities. The type and quality of mental changes can affect the structure formation of the brain, leading to changes in its plasticity. This is why music can have such a profound impact on our emotional and mental state.

Rather than trying to categorize people based on their music preferences, we should focus on the emotional and mental impact that music can have. Different music styles can elicit different emotional responses, and it’s important to recognize that this experience is unique to each individual.

In conclusion, while it may be tempting to try and classify individuals based on their preferred music style, this overlooks the unique emotional and mental responses that music can elicit. Instead, we should focus on understanding the relationship between the brain and mind, and how music can impact them. This will allow us to appreciate the individuality of our musical experiences and recognize the power of music to influence our emotional and mental well-being.
